YouTube content creators who want my advice on how to improve their YouTube channel, and today I'll be focus on a commonly overlooked service, Google Plus.
Google Plus isn't really talked about or used nearly as much as other social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook, but it can be very useful if you know how to take advantage of it.
Believe it or not Google Plus can give you a lot of exposure on YouTube, my own Google Plus actually has 54,000 views, which is quite a lot.
Around 4 weeks ago I actually noticed that I was getting quite a lot of views on my Google Plus page, having nearly 18,000. This continued to grow, actually going up 6,000 views over the course of one night!
Now the majority of you all are probably wondering "Why would I ever want Google Plus page views in the first place?"
The simple answer is that even though my channel, as well as yours most likely, is relatively small, and you haven't even considered trying to get sponsored due to being one of the smaller channels on YouTube. However, by using Google Plus I have successfully landed several sponsors, including Tonor, Havit and Oxford Street which I will talk about in a later video.
Enough about what I have to say, what's really important is how YOU are going to use Google Plus to your advantage.
The first thing you're going to need to understand is where the views actually come from.
I'm not going to go in-depth about it, but your views will mostly come from you, as well as other people, sharing your content, which is useful for exposure. [Edited By Staff]
In addition, it will be useful to know:
View counts may not be exact.
View counts are not updated in real time.
Views are counted when posts are viewed in communities.
Views are counted whether or not the post was shared publicly or privately.
Views of a Youtube comment integrated with your Google+ count may count, but Yonatan wasn’t sure, and even if they do, he doubts they count if they are also made visible on Google+ itself.
View counts are from October 2012 forward (according to this post by Googler Eddie Kessler)
Images on Blogger's blogs are hosted on Google+, and thus views there count as views for the associated Google+ profile.
Views of images on a user’s Picasa account count as views for their Google+ account.
Google+ images shown as Chromecast screensavers may count as views for the profile that posted the photo.
View counts for pages have replaced the +1 button and associated count on the page. But the page’s total +1 count is still in the Google+ API, and still appears on on-site buttons or badges that display it (at least for now).
Knowing this information, I would now recommend that you look into joining a YouTube Content Creator community, such as a forum or group. Most, if not all, are free to join so the more the merrier.
As I am primarily a gaming channel, I have joined Gaming-Related communities where I can share my videos and hopefully get more exposure in terms of views.
Just a side note, do NOT spam your videos on community forums.
This will have the opposite effect that you want and will not give you a good reputation.
Make sure your posts are relevant and don't just throw your video out there without an explanation of what it is.
Sharing your content respectfully and responsibly is going to earn you a good reputation and open you up to other things such as collaborations and other things that will benefit you and your channel.
