We are currently using just one YouTube/Chrome extension that we find genuinely useful to us. Not really so much to grow our channel as we cant find anything for that but more to improve knowledge on current trends and useful tags as well as giving features that YouTube alone doesn't use (for some reason)
So we are currently using an extension that I can only assume is made my Maker Studios (Correct me if I am wrong) as the links to helpful videos showcase the same person as maker do.
This extension is called :
HEARTBEAT
To Install just google "Heartbeat Extension" - Takes you to google chrome store.
The best things about this extension are things that either YouTube used to include, or really should think about including. Just Heartbeat does it for them. These include -
TAGS - My favourite feature
Okay so this extension actually allows you to see the tags being used on any video. I use this almost all the time to increase the exposure to our own videos. So by doing a YouTube search for the video I am about to upload. I can click on the top few videos that are shown and copy the tags from the best of them to make sure that my video appears as high up into the search engine as I can for a new upload. Over time most of our vids appear within the first page. I would only advise taking the tags from the videos that don't have such a huge subscriber following, as someone with a huge fan base wont really need tags and their videos are on the home page for other reasons.
COMPETITIONS
One we have not yet used properly but will be in the near future is the ability to simply go into the comment section of a video and select any random comment for the winner of a contest or giveaway you might be running. It literally just gives you a button near "Post a comment..." that will load a random comment. Also on the topic of comment it let you search through comment for keywords, channel names etc...
RATINGS BAR
Okay I love this feature myself, but it could also be a down side. Heartbeat actually puts a little balance bar on top of every single thumbnail to every single video on YouTube that you come across. This bar is a red to green bar that shows you the like/dislike ratio on the video, and the actual like/dislikes when you hover over it. I love this feature for when I am browsing YouTube as a viewer as it means I don't waste my time of pointless videos and also as a creator. As I can see what thumbnails are working for people and videos related to mine without having to click on anyone's video. It saves loads of time!
SIMPLE EXTRAS
- Gives you a button, just next to your Icon in the top right, that always give you direct access to "Video Manager"
- Has an option to switch YouTube to "Dark Mode" which changes all sorts of settings to make it really easy to be on YouTube with no lights on.
- "Get A Room" puts you in a chat room with all other Heartbeat users. Does Allow video links.
DOWNSIDES
There is only one real down side to this but you can get around it. Heartbeat comes with a built in ad-blocker. Which I have always been against and they really do my head in when I hear people still use them. An ad-blocker disables the ads shown around YouTube and can single handily stop creators making revenue. Which sucks as this is some peoples job. If you decide to download this extension, please go into the settings found on the little red button on YouTube and disable it. Thanks in advance.
I would honestly advise getting this extension for all new and older creators because it genuinely will improve your ability to find an audience, which we all know isn't easy. It give features that YouTube really should have or have had, and will help you find your audience and visa versa.
