How to deal with jealousy!

I've Got It
So we all have youtube friends who have more subs than you and so forth, and i'm suffering from quite a bit of jealousy.

My friend, who will be unnamed, has now 2250 subs, after his gateway video making him gain around 1900 subs in about 2-3 weeks! And here I am still scrambling for views!

Now I'm happy for him. Trust me, I'm happy he's getting more fans, and he's making great content. But how do you deal with the jealousy?

My question is, was that friend LUCKY?
Was the video genuinely good, or did it just get a lot of views (Or both!)
Look at his average views, that's how much of his sub base is active. If there is a small amount there, he might as well have done sub4sub for all the effect it had.

If he is seeing views, look more at how you can improve to match it. Look at it as a target, not a point for jelousy. I think rivalry actually spurs one on more than working on one's own. On my previous channel (~1k subs) a lot of what got me motivated to start my new channel was the fact that I wasn't genuinely happy with my channel. If you're happy, then others will jump upon the bandwagon of love. And an active sub base GROWS a channel, not just sustains it.
 
I started YouTube around the same time as a friend of mine. Although he started off with a few hundred more subs than me, he grew exponentially. Only a year and a half and he's sitting around 35K while I'm at 3K (though I took about a 6 month break). I'm pretty jealous though happy for him. It's a normal thing to do and it motivated me to get back on track. Healthy rivalry is great.

Best advice I can give is don't get caught up in other people -- just do your own thing and be consistent and everything will work out in the end. Also, if you connect with your friend and you guys collab, that can only help you out, which is good.

Luck is a big element, haven't we (aren't we, in my case!) all waiting for that one gateway video? Most people have had that green monster at some stage or another. But what really matters is your channel's development and how you feel you can improve yourself as a YouTuber in order to reach your goals.
 
I think jealousy can be normal just as long as you acknowledge it and move on. It's better to focus on your channel and what you're doing because otherwise I don't think you'll be able to have success.
 
I agree with @EleniVTV, don't let it get to you that bad. I just see jealousy as a way too improve myself. When I see a fast growing channel I am just happy for them and it makes me realize that I need to work even harder! And that's good for your channel, but the focus should always stay at your own channel!
 
Everyone gets jealous about one thing or another so don't feel bad about that.

Why don't you kindly ask your friend to give you a shoutout, provided it's a similar channel. Or do a collab and ask him put you in the spotlight a little more.

He's your friend, he HAS to help you :D
 
The most important attribute to having a successful channel is focusing on your own content and having fun making the videos. Sure some you tubers progress quicker then others but don't be discouraged, make sure you are always focusing on improving video by video! :D Rome wasn't built in a day :)
