How NOT to Promote Your Channel

I was on Omegle, trying to meet some new friends who are also interested in YouTube. I was connected with one person who simply left a link to their channel and then disconnected.

This is quite possibly one of the worst ways to promote a channel I've ever seen. It's right up there with sending out spam messages saying "CHECK OUT MY CHANNEL!" or commenting on other videos simply to promote your own channel.

What are some other ways that we should avoid promoting our channels?

I defiantly agree with what your saying, as well i would of never of thought of going on Omegle (chat) to get to know new people and their channels. so thanks, also thanks to everyone else's ways of self advertising, i,m starting out on YouTube so i,m getting all the help and advise i can get. :)

I had one of my subscribers who was so obsessed with me that kept sending me messages and leaving comments to check out his channel and that he posted a new video blah blah and when he discovered I was a girl he kept sending me message to flirt. I was annoy by that ._.

It's rude to join a forum to only promote your channel. Sometimes people join a site and start promoting like crazy. People should only promote on forums where they are active and the members will more likely to watch the channel's videos.

Agreed. It's such a scummy method. I personally hate having to pimp my channel. Unfortunately, it's required considering all the content out there now. But if you are going to pimp something, then at least try to integrate yourself into that community. I know I'm less liable to give someone the time of day when they have 3 posts total, 2 of which are in their channel thread.

I've gotten messages on YouTube to become a partner with a community channel for months. I just put my first video up two days ago. So... that's pretty much spam and I don't like that.

I had a viewer like that, at first it was harmless and he asked for a shoutout & I gave it. After awhile it started to become to blatant & it wasn't even worth the view/sub anymore. Long story short he unsubbed & moved on, I hate losing someone who watched for so long but getting messages and requests started to become very annoying, and I guess he thought I could propel his channel lol

It's one of the most terrible things to do on Omegle and one of the worst ways to promote your channel. Unfortunately though, it works sometimes, especially if they have a funny YouTube name, but that's just me anyway.
