How much is too much when it comes to selling stuff?

I was watching Phillip DeFranco and he sells a new t shirt or poster everyday and always slips in a reason to go to netflix or some other sponsor of his and it kind of annoys me. I doubt it will ever stop me watching and I still enjoy it so I doubt he really cares. So how much is too much when it comes to selling stuff and have you ever stopped watching someone because of it?
Not that I'm going to be selling merch and getting sponsors anytime soon.

Big channels most likely make more money off sponsors branding and extra than off their channel

smosh sells like a shop woth of merchandice :p

My favorite line from SLC punk... And I never sold out Steveo... I bought in.

I hear you though, it can seem a bit crappy to already be watching someone who is successful be like, "oh and check out the shirts..." But that's bidness!

I haven't stopped watching channels I like yet because of annoying merchandising. I figure they deserve to make the most out of their channel but like you, I would worry about it affecting my viewers. There are plenty of people who would go "booo he's only in it for the money now! He no longer cares about his fans!" But I suppose true fans would understand and be supportive. Unless of course the person's ego inflates to the level of a-hole :p

this one tech review guy I watched got really freaking annoying.
he posted annotations throughout the ENTIRE video to his amazon affiliate pages. And these weren't the ones you could just close and not worry about. he made new ones pop out every 30 seconds or so.
Also, he started talking about amazon stuff WAY too much. He used to post 1-2 vids a week of tech people wanted. Then he just started reviewing amazon deals. Such a turn-off. He lost half his subscribers.

DeFranco is probably the biggest merch hound as far as slipping it into his content. That said, I think he mentions the shirts a lot, because they're always in limited quantity, and he doesn't want to frustrate people.

I also think he can get away with 30 second of plugs because his content is so comparatively long. As long as you spend less than 25% of your video plugging your merch, asking for comments or subscribers or shares, or directing people to another video, etc...we're cool.

when your advertising in EVERY single one of your videos even if i did advertise id try to keep limited to every other video
