How Many Subscriber Do You Need Before You Can....

It depends on the cost of your videos and how many views you get. I think half a million views would be good for me, but if I get sponsors than I could have less views but could make more money. If you want to quit you job and make Youtube your full time job with little views I think sponsors is the way to go.

Like others have said, it depends a lot on cost of living, production cost, etc. It also depends on what you are able to do outside of youtube. For some people, earning $2,000 a month of youtube may be enough, for others, they can earn more with their job. If you have a good job, where you are building experience, connections, etc, it would be hard to quit it and just do youtube. Too much uncertainty. It would also depend on what field you are interested in, if you want to do something in film production, youtube might actually help you, but if you want to be a construction manager or a programmer, I doubt putting "Youtube Star - 2014-2016" on your resume would add anything.

I've seen channels with over a million subs, that have around 100-200million views, over about 2-3 years. If you are earning $1 per 1000 views, that's $100-200k total over 2-3 years. A professional job can earn similar, only it will last longer. But with youtube, you could grow bigger, and start earning thousands a day. Plus it may be less demanding than an actual job.

The answer is: You are no where CLOSE to even having to worry about it. And besides, it isn't the subscriber count you need to worry yourself with. It's the view count. 1000 views = ~2 dollars. Take your before tax income, divide by 2 and multiply the sum by 1000 and see how many views you come up with. Astronomical isn't it?

A lot depends on how much income is comfortable for you--cost of living. A guy living in a small apartment alone isn't going to need as much money as someone who has a family and a mortgage.

Revenue varies for everyone, but when we started getting about 200,000 views per day back in 2014, I knew I'd be able to quit my job. Nowadays we get a lot more than that!
Single apartment with me and my dog is good enough for me Ha! my dream is to go fulltime on youtube =)

I can manage because I still live with my parents :) (dont worry they want me to stay lol)
and I have a 1 day a week min wage job to also support me, funny enough I earn more with that 1 day a week job than with youtube xD

I think it's also much more difficult these days to gain the views you need to make money on YouTube, because there are so many other channels and videos competing with you out there. Still, it's an interesting experiment to see how close you can get with what you do.

At minimum 2-5 million monthly views, every month, probably more, and don't forget the money you get from Google adsense isn't taxed so you'll get a 1099 at the end of the year so you'll need even more views after taxes.

As others have said subscribers don't matter but if you do go full-time I'd recommend not relying solely on AdSense. Read @Tim Schmoyer's post about ways he earns income from youtube. He was earning a full-time income with I think around 10k subs because he didn't rely on AdSense alone.
