How long to make decent income?

What I would consider decent income is about $500 a month. I am being quite conservative here but I want to know how long it took YOU to make this (if you do).
I understand its different for everyone.

It could take years for you just to make enough views to become partnered with a network, and even then you would only be making pennies a day. Focus on creating good content and growing your channel first. Once you have a solid foundation, then concern yourself with money. Again, this can take a long time depending on how you grow your channel.

@Wreckless Eating and @uberdanger are probably making a decent income that supports them from YouTube.

It can depend on the channel's CPM and how many people are watching the ads. It's hard to say you need xyz to get xyz money per month off the top of our heads.

cool, so it's been just 2 weeks and I already made about 3 quarters. But it doesn't discourage me because of that one story we all heard, something about a penny doubled on each square of a chess board? I think its very similar to youtube, it'll exponentially grow if everything is done close to perfect (SEO, content, catchy titles and thumbnails).[DOUBLEPOST=1405797954,1405797861][/DOUBLEPOST]IM GONNA BE RICH!! uhm i mean... well, im just so excited about the whole make money on youtube thing xD

I make $50 a month but I only upload now and again, I have 1700 subs and about 390,000 views, I'm a long way off that $500 amount :)

I've been at this for 3+ years now and I just hit $40 last month (across all 3 of my channels, added together) ... I don't ever expect to earn $500/month.

You won't achieve it and even if you do it won't last long while Youtube is going in the direction it is going. See Youtube as a platform for building up a content creation portfolio. The last thing you should be focused on is money because in the end you will be making content for all the wrong reasons, which will eventually effect that content.

Humans achieve great things when they are constantly achieving what they hope to achieve. When it comes to money you will never make it in a successful, continuous fashion and so you should be focusing on achieving the best content possible. It is easier to strive for and will make your actually abilities and enthusiasm for the art better.

Noir Proxy I used to be completely consumed by the thought of making money but that was almost 7 months ago lol
I now am able to balance my thoughts better with creating good content and such. Its just that from time to time I get consumed with the though of cha-ching once again  I feel that I can control it better now though.
...or is it controlling me? nah jk
