How Dose seach rankings work?

I've tryed looking it up on the fourms( not very hard admitedly)

How dose it work? how come the yogscast, and Total Biscuit are on the first page, and i'm not?
I'm just interested to know why.

Hopefully i can understand to help my channel grow :3

Here is what matters:
1) View count
2) Sub count
3) Keyword Density (How often the search term is in description, title, tags, etc
4) User Engagement (Comments, ratings, etc)
5) View Duration (How long they watch the video)
6) Video Age
7) Youtube Partner? If there are ads, YT makes money, so they rank it higher
8) Backlinks (other sites linking to this)
9) Embed sites (Other sites playing this video)

I think that just about covers it :) Those are not in any particular order btw
 
The short version is that when someone searches for something, Google tries to show them what they think is the best example of what that person is searching for. An algorithm uses the stuff in that great list ConnersCraft made, among other things, to determine what the best matches for the search are.

No one knows exactly what Google's recipe for figuring it out is, but SEO is basically the job of figuring out what the most important factors are to make a video or web page rank higher in searches, and optimizing those factors.
