How do you guys make thumbnails?

Can anybody point me in the right direction on making thumbnails.? I don't know what softwares to use.

I use Photoshop but I hear GIMP is a great (free) alternative!

I use to do it in Gimp but I now just use sony vegas to create it and save it as a screen shot, find it more effective!

I know a lot of people use Photoshop. I don't have Photoshop but I do use Premiere Pro. After I export but before I shut down PP, I find a still I like, add a title, and take a snapshot. I then use iPhoto to crop it down to size. This is not the most elegant way, but it works for me.

I wish I had the money for vegas. The problem with gimp is the download isn't directly from their website. Thanks for you input!

Hey you'll be surprised, when I got Vegas first time around, it only cost me £20 when I got it from amazon, it ain't the pro version but it does the job for me! Have a look around!

I use Photoshop CS5 It's really good for thumbnails, I would recommend it to anybody even if you don't know how to use it there are thousands of tutorials out there for beginners...

you can use http://www.online-image-editor.com/ its not perfect but it helps make the thumbnails that you want. my advise when making one is to not make it look too catchy it just does not work any more.

I take a screenshot of an interesting part of my video & use that. If I want to add text or edit the photo at all, I either:

1) Do the edits in FCPX and take a screenshot when done

2) Do the edits in an app called PicsArt
