Hey Mac Users

Okay, so I don't know about you guys, but editing 1080p footage is nearly impossible on my laptop. I usually water my footage down to 720p after filming on my iphone. So if you're a Mac user, there's a free converter that seems really good to me. It's not pirated, it's literally FREE. It's called HandBrake. I love it so much that I put it in my dock. Just some advice for anybody looking for a good way to convert footage.

Yeah, People who know nothing about computers can be taught to use Ubuntu in 15 minutes =] I've taught some classes on it, too bad I haven't kept up with the terminal cmds.
Ewwwwbuntu. Excellent APT repositories, but damn their default Gnome setup is worse than Vista. </elitism>

OP: Handbrake is fantastic though. But I'm more concerned with why you're struggling with 1080p footage? Just general slowness?

I tried to edit the 1080p in premier (I switched to iMovie) and it was WAAAY out of sync with audio. I mean. 8GB of Ram and a 2.23 ghz processor... am I wrong?

O_O That's *very* strange. I'd think that'd be a problem with the video itself rather than with playback. I get "skips" if my machine is choking on something, bit never ends up out of sync. And that's with iMove or FCPX. Have you tried just reencoding to 1080p with handbrake? Could just be something weird with the iPhone settings?

While I have someone who speaks my language... Do you know anything about Filmic Pro?
