Help :)? "Your video may include clips that are owned by a third party"

Hello, I have a small issue here

I wanted to upload a video today, but I still haven't made it public because I've got this on my video:

Now I only use public domain items or creative common items in my video. Usually, I never get this sort of thing, but today I did, and it is an interesting case. Yes, I am using third party content, but it is licensed under creative commons as shown here:

Now the issue is that National geographic is also using the video, as shown here:

But the director/videographer, Gregory Wilson, the guy responsible for the video, made the video available on creative commons, but youtube is saying that it is owned by National Geographic. I don't know whether I honestly should dispute or not, and I am fearful that Nat geo would issue a copyright strike against me.

What should I do :)?

Well more then likely Gergory Wilson was funded by National Geographic to do the Cheetah shoot. So they essentially own the rights. Even though he took the footage and may even have it in his possession, they paid him to do it. I've done some work for them here in D.C. and they make you sign a butt load of documents. If I was you I would loose the Cheetah footage, as NatGeo wont bend.

If you want to keep the video up on your channel you can just leave it and see where it gets you, or you could play it safe and remove it.

I would contest under terms of the CC license for the video (Link to it of course).

Nat Geo may have the exclusive rights to use on Youtube.

See the youtube copyright system is built in such a way that even if you're in the right you can still get screwed in a situation like this. So I'd delete the video if I were you

I don't think he is getting screwed.. The NatGeo Logo is all over the footage.

So? I could shove my logo all over cc footage it doesn't mean I own it.

I'm not saying that he's definitely without fault I'm just saying that even if he is perfectly entitled to use the footage natgeo could strike him and short of taking them to court there's nothing you can do.

Well having worked for Nat Geo.. I doubt they would just put the logo on it if they didn't have the right to it.. It is even on the original that the Director put up on Vimeo. If you do a quick Google search of Gregory Wilson you find he works for National Geographic all the time. They fund his projects. I would just say it is not worth the head ache and just take the video down.. Or contact NatGeo and ask permission.

When in doubt, throw it out.

It goes for the chicken in the fridge with the green stuff on it, and videos that might get you spanked by the Youtube machine. I've had a few over the years where I knew I was in the right, but I didn't want to fight "the man" over it.
