i used a template, literally a blank image the size of a youtube channel with the box in the middle, and edited and added stuff around it, i think if you look at the top of one of the forums, there is a photoshop template for a channel background, one of the moderators posted it.

also a lot of templates out there are slightly wrong, i mean i have tried loads and this is the first template i successfully used! :)
