What a mug I am
I am just starting out so I am using iMovie which i guess is quite a beginning editing software. My videos were all coming out with bad quality even though i have a hd cam so today i changed the settings on my cam to film in 50p i don't quite know what that means but it sounded good, so i did a bunch of filming and now everytime i try to import my stuff or even plug my cam into my computer iMovie shuts down, i don't know how to import it in another way and its driving me insane, does anyone have a solution for me?

I've never had a Mac so i don't know how they operate but by any chance maybe you can reinstall the whole software? (iMovie). Should make it work again.

My recommended settings to export videos:
-Dimensions: 1280 x 720 (16:9) or 1920 x 1080 (16:9)
-Codec: H.264 (.mp4)
-Frame rate: 25fps

That is quite a standard. Frame rate can differ if you're filming in 30fps then export in 30fps or 60fps since youtube allows that now.

Your camera doesn't have to be connected all the time does it? You just copy paste the video files from your camera to computer that you're going to use and edit in iMovie and disconnect the camera. Then you can open up iMovie and import the video files from your computer.

The aren't movie files when I look at the camera the only way I know how to import is with iMovie
