Haters

Just got my first comment from a hater. Of course, it stung. But, some of the most successful channels in my niche still get critical/harsh comments every day.

So, how do you deal with them? Open discussion; not just for me. Let's make it about all of us.

Looks like that person subbed to you so it couldn't of been all that bad. Haters are going to hate though, its unavoidable. Your best bet is probably ignore them, though I tend to just make fun of them.

Ignoring them is definitely my policy, apart from opportunities to respond constructively. I'm mainly curious how other people feel about it and how they've dealt with it in particularly difficult moments (of which this not one for me, I promise), and I thought it would be good to give this topic a sounding board. Thanks to you both. And you're right; he is a subber. Definitely a silver lining.

Thanks! I just hit 50 yesterday morning and am sitting at 57 today. Channels' been going in earnest since November. Started my first uploads casually (Roman Ascension) back in August. Hit me up with a PM if you want to know more; I really don't want this topic to be about me. Haha.

Just looked at your channel, and it is brilliant. Honestly wouldn't know anyone who would target this channel. But in simple terms, if they're not giving you ways to improve in a constructive and appropriate manner, then ignore them.

Thanks so much. Everyone's a critic, as they say. The guy that inspired me (he has 170k subs) gets people TEARING HIM APART on a regular basis, and he's regarded as a pro at games much more complicated than Total War. So, I don't plan on letting this guy ruin my day. That's part of why I started this thread. Delicious lemonade.

You're not anyone until people are trying to knock you down haha.

No but really, hate is going to be a part of success. The best way to handle it is to try and not let it affect you. Which is damn hard and from time to time, someone is going to say something that makes you question everything. It's at that point you double down and remember that you're doing this because YOU love it. Lots of others do to, and those that don't only serve to help get your content out to others (engagement is a very positive thing!)
