Well, being successful, even on YouTube, will take work for the majority of us. Some channels can luck out and grab people simply from their personality and then run with it. Even then, those people have to do work to get content out there consistently to satisfy the audience. People will value their content and channel differently and will expect different outcomes from it. A lot of people here "dream" of the idea of their channel being big and successful, but when it's times to putting your foot down and put the work into it, perspectives change. I believe any channel can be successful with the right mindset, but that involves doing all the little things that you wouldn't want to do in the first place.
If your goal is to just have fun making your content, then by all means do so. You might grab an audience by sheer luck, but I personally would rely on creating the best platform for myself to succeed.
