Hello, I was wondering if there is any point of using URL Shortners?mainly Gooogle one.

I see many youtubers copy pasting the shortended URL in the actual video description box and also sharing them on Facebook.
Is it legal and ok with youtube policies?
Are their any SEO benefits for using these kind of stuff??

If anyone can help me out,I'll really appreciate it! thank you people.

most of them are using bit.ly I guess, I have never tried it anyway!
Its actually safe, it helps to keep the track of views and they might be earning some cash/clicks :D

Thank you Jawad! what would you suggest me to do for improving SEO??? besides common tagging?

ahahaha I think most of the people are searching "HOW TO" related videos, if u put HOW TO in ur video title, it will work a lot I guess :D

In general the purpose of url shorteners are:

1. To make a long url easier to share. Twitter has character limit and people don't read long facebook posts. So it is much easier to share and post in a status if it is shorter.

2. To make the url easier to remember if you have a long url (ex. youtube.com/dlfkjsdlfjdslfkjoeiejfldksjfldksjfljdf) it is easier to remember if you use the premium features offered by bit.ly and tinyurl.com (ex. bit.ly/mycoolvideo) if you want people to remember or just for it to look cleaner. So many people use this (and not even the custom one) for subscribe links, you have probably seen that before.

3. Tracking. If you have an account goog.gl, bit.ly and more all have analytics available. You can see how many times someone has clicked a url and more. It is very helpful and could aid in marketing strategies.[DOUBLEPOST=1423366685,1423366549][/DOUBLEPOST]Oh if you are using url shortners the description of a video stick to either bit.ly, tinyurl, or googl.gl. Anything else could get you in trouble do your research first. Adf.ly is the worst and it could get you in trouble don't use it, plus it is stupid anyways.
