I wanted to write a huge post, but then it got way too wordy. So let me simplify it in a nice ordered list.
Stance? -- I absolutely love the integration, and I think people who are stuck on Ye Olde YouTube are neglecting to realize that one of the huge pushes to syndicate YouTube with Google+ is actually to revitalize the community aspect in a broader, rejuvenated way.
Reasons I love the integration:
1) We can change channel names quickly and effectively!
2) Our URLs are simple and long. This forces us to find creative ways to reach out and direct people to our channels. In other words... If you want to be on top, you have to work for it.
And if you don't like the long URLs, here are some creative ideas.
-- Get a short link with Google URL Shortener, TinyURL or another URL shortening service.
-- Maintain your own domain name! They're relatively inexpensive and can be used to redirect users to your channel.
-- Direct users to a social media profile, such as Tumblr, where you regularly post your content and keep the link noticeable on that page.
-- Suggest that potential viewers search your channel name.
The ideas can go on forever!
3) We can now create multiple channels with one account.
4) We can also add multiple managers to a single channel thus making collab channels much less of a trust game!
While Google could have made these features separate of G+, the use of Google+ profiles and pages helps simplify the chore and makes integration so much easier.
5) The new syndication allows faster, easier social media connection and is actually helping us to reach wider audiences outside of YouTube itself. If you know how to tag and use key elements in your posting, the instant sharing with G+ is actually aimed to help smaller users reach a wider audience faster.
And a small ranting note: Dwelling on the once-was is not going to change the is-now. If you want to get the best experience you can out of YouTube, learn to love it for what it is and what it's becoming! Learn to shift and move with the river as it flows toward the open ocean of endless possibility! If you shut yourself off and let yourself lose interest, you will become the boulder that settles near the start of the river, never getting to the ocean.
