Good gaming channels???

I remember when I actually liked Pewdiepie and now I feel like his videos have devolved into further immaturity and trend catering. I still like Markiplier, he's toned down the shouting recently and is still very informative.

Inside Gaming are awesome but have just disbanded from Machinima and I'm waiting for them to start up a new channel.

I've just got into Robbaz. He's pretty funny and doesn't scream for no reason. It's not uncut/raw footage but he doesn't cut out too much stuff. He might appeal to your tastes.

SpllaterCatGaming is pretty good if you're after uncut footage. He doesn't play a lot of AAA games and no sports games but he is very witty and informative, something I've been jealous of recently.

**Insert shameless plug by joking that you should visit my channel**

Mark and Cry are my Inspirations. They are both great people. Both is extremely different but they are foot at what they do. Mark is sure THE let's player. He is so good! His caring personality is the best.

I liked pewdiepie, during my younger years. But now I am 22 years old and noticed just how rude and immature he really is. I roll my eyes a bit too much when I listen to him now-a-days. XD

Haha, I got you by seven years so I know what you mean about PDP. I just figure he knows his audience well so he aims at what he knows they want. There's nothing wrong with that, either! Just that he clearly isn't firing his material toward a guy like me that's turning 30 in a few months.

https://www.youtube.com/user/LordMinion777 I can't stomach un-edited content too much, especially if the commentator isn't that entertaining or has a lot of quiet moments, so I only watch his channel on occasion but I do still enjoy watching his group/multiplayer LPs.

That's the big thing with solo LP'ing. If there's two people it's not as hard to keep BS'ing, but when it's just you then you really, really need to have the gift of gab or else it's going to fall apart. I've seen a lot of LP'ers, even guys with a lot of subs, who fall into the "okay... gonna open the chest here... nope................ all right I think that's the key........................." trap of just blandly narrating what we're watching.

So when it comes to editing or not editing, my thinking is do whichever serves the video. In a lot of games, that isn't terribly hard because it probably coincides with a lot of time where nothing interesting happens. Spooky's House of Jump Scares is a good example. AWESOME game, but there are long stretches where it's just walking from room to room and it's not hard to see how commentary might dry up, so... snip 'er out.

I have personally started to like Markiplier more now when he actually do put more effort into his videos by editing them. It still boggles my mind why people prefer raw material.
An example here.

Old school Mark: Running around in a puzzle game lost for 2 hours and yells his lungs out for being stupid.

New Mark: Edits the 2 hours away from the video and actually progresses in the game while commenting "I can't waste all your time with that crap, thank me for editing it out".
Yes, I thank you!

That's my theory exactly. It's a Let's Play, so don't forget that it is a game that we may be interested in watching. Aim for ~15 minutes per video and trim out the fluff.

But the flipside is someone like PewDiePie. Lately he's done a lot of montage-style videos where he plays a game and clips it out to the few minutes where the "funny thing" happens. It gives NO time to really get into the game he's playing. I don't want 5 hours of meandering but I also sure don't want 5 minutes that's essentially a "reaction compilation".

As is always the case, the answer lies in balance...

SomeGuyDude, ooooooooooh, thanks for finally explaining the thought behind that. I agree with you on that now.

I never meant to edit long let's plays into a montage. Just editing out air.

My Alien: Isolation Let's Play is a good idea of what I mean with editing. For example the game itself has lots of backtracking in the missions (which are boring to watch).

Raw material: 1 hour; actual missions = 30 mins. The route to just get back again the same way = another 30mins.

Edited material: 28min of actual mission gameplay. + 1-2 minutes showing the way back.

I think this is alright editing, don't take out much of the game and don't show boring parts. :)

I think Markiplier has started doing this editing himself. (I personally don't watch pewdiepie anymore)

Yeah that's exactly how I do things. Lots of games are full of "nothing" areas where you're either stumbling to find an item or just wandering to the next part of the game. Case in point I was doing Alchemilla and some of those puzzles took me a half hour (and I brute forced the damn things in frustration). No need to have all that crap in there. On the other hand, something like the Bad Dream series or Dungeon Nightmares moves at a good enough pace to keep it all in there.

Group channels like the Game Grumps can get away with pure raw footage and have whole episodes dedicated to being stuck at one spot because the chemistry between the personalities is where the entertainment lies and if anything that frustration can foster classic moments. Alone? Hell no, get that jim jam outta there.
