Going after youtube full-time

I have a full time job and do youtube full time. Makes for a very busy schedule, but I enjoy doing it :)

I wouldn't bet the farm unless you have a large following. Also the landscape is changing and it may not be what it is in a couple years.

Don't quit your day job unless you have no other choice. Same rules as starting a business.
Very good point - although I started my business after I was laid off in 2008. Thankfully my business prospered before I had to go out looking for a "real" job again. ;)

I have a full time job and I do videos 5 days a week. I would quit if I made at least what I'm making now. Don't quit school. There's no point. If you suddenly decide not to do Youtube anymore, you'd have to go back to school anyway.

I dropped out at about 30,000 subscribers, back then the small amount of cash i was making was enough to keep me alive and i love making videos :)

Youtube is too unstable as revenue source. A small tweak in the algorithm and your earnings start to melt as spring snow. But may be once I retire (in 20 30 years) I may consider it as a full time entertainment hobby. :)

always get an education! you always need something to fall back on and if it gives you extra income then good on ya youre very lucky!

@chottom is 100% correct, some parts of the year i'll be doing really good and within a week or 2 it can all change and you just have to adjust to it.

If I was close to graduation, I would finish what I started. It will be very hard to make the effort to go back.

I work from home anyway and do YouTube for fun but if the chance is ever there to do YouTube i would certainly do it but i am enjoying where i am right now

Anybody on this forum ever make the decision to stop going to school and do videos? Specifically close to college graduation when should be looking for a job etc. Tough call

SocialNom…first of all big fan. If you're ever in California I'd love to do a collaboration--I also do public pranks. Anyway, I graduated from UC Berkeley and then went on to law school. I decided that I didn't want to spend the rest of my life suppressing my creative side and sitting at a desk, so I made the decision to quit law school and create a YouTube channel.

You don't get anywhere in life by not taking risks--you just have to know when the right time to take that risk is. I don't know you, but I am a prankster and I'm guessing your goal, like mine, is to get into Vitaly, RomanAtwood, Whatever, LAHWF, SimplePickup, etc's. league. I think you have then potential to do that--but only you know if quitting school is the right move. Think hard, trust your gut…you're only this young once.

The only time you should consider that is if you're making a solid $1000 a month or more and are constantly growing. Even then, you need to be careful as things can go bad at anytime. I've been going hard with video production lately but that's because I can't find a job, so either laze around or do something useful with my time. For me, I'd have to be making around $2000/month to consider doing YouTube full time although I do it full time now but not for income. So around 2k/m to consider not looking for jobs elsewhere but I'm not entirely sure how I would feel making a career out of YouTube so early in my life tbh, it's weird, it sounds so awesome but I'd feel so weird. I'm still planning on studying business marketing. But I'd say wait, keep most of your eggs in education and other jobs, do YouTube on the side.
