Gaming Channels.

I used to watch gaming channels a lot, but nowadays it seems to be so hard to find something original. Especially among smaller channels, it all just feels like the same thing with a slightly different sounding voice.

That in mind, even though I haven't made one in years, they are fun to make. ;D But I love playing video games, so of course I'd say that. XD

Yea gaming is extremely over-saturated. In fact, if you check the new members thread, more than half of it is always, "hey guys, I'm an inspiring gamer....blah, blah, blah..."

I'm not saying don't do it, if you make gaming videos and people want to watch them more power to you, I just don't understand the appeal personally.

It could be that you don't want to play the game yourself so you watch someone else play it or you are wanting to see someone elses reaction to a game, can be a huge range of reasons :)

*Gaming* is not only "let's plays", let's just have this in mind c:
Me, I personally have a *gaming* channel, because it is indeed based on games, it is just that I'm creating all types of (funny, musical, parody) videos using pre-recorded gameplay footage. And I don't think that there isn't a demand for these kind of videos. I enjoy watching them myself. I enjoy making them :)

So IMO gaming itself is a good tool for videos.
The form, uniqueness is that really matters (same could be said about all the forms of videos)

+ Speaking of forms, I agree that "I'm playing the game and putting my comments on the whole thing" type of channels don't have any future, really. There are too many of them, the competition is crazy, and IMO these are just a lil passive for my liking. If one wants to do this still, he/she has to change something drastically about the whole "let's play" idea to really get the attention he/she want by making these c:

Yeah it sadly is a very over-saturated market and it's a shame for people who are just starting because the choice of people to watch is just MASSIVE and I don't know if other people find this, but so many of them are very samey - I know the same can be said for a lot of categories, but for some reason the gaming community suffers from this a lot. I guess it's just so hard to stand out now.

I think there is still some opportunity though, such as finding a gaming niche like showing an audience games that are less well known or games that came out a long time ago. I'm not sure on what gamers need to for the most part though, it's a little unfair, but that is just the way of things I guess! At the end of the day though, it isn't going to hurt to try. Just the other month I saw a gaming channel go from 500 to beyond 10k subscribers so it is definitely possible to flourish, just made highly unlikely due to over-saturation!

The way I look at gaming channels is that it's a great option for those who want to experience a particular game but don't have the means to play it themselves.
That being said, way too many people put the focus on a contrived "wacky" persona and come off as a more annoying and try-hard carbon copy of creators who are already established.

This. This x10000. Exactly why I struggle to get into YouTube gaming, half the time the gameplay commentary is filled with what they are doing with their channel or are pushing for likes and subscribers without producing quality content. Then like you said, to be entertaining they come off as annoying and rude. It's an over-saturated genre on the YouTube platform and impossible for any new start-ups to break out as they are just like every other person.
