Gaming Channel Thumbnails

What's a good way to do thumbnails for a gaming channel? Part of me wants to do a "title card" type thing, where I use one title screen-like scene with just a different number to represent the episode (and that's what I've been doing) but part of me thinks it's best to show one interesting frame of gameplay. Or maybe a frame of gameplay with some changes/exaggerations or something?

What I do is have something constant for each thumbnail. The "#1" or "#2," etc. and the title of the game are always in the same spot.
BUT the background is always an interesting frame from the game

You can do it other ways too, this is just the way I've done it recently.

I draw all mine from hand. The more you personalise the better. I am not a big fan of just stock wallpapering and putting a number on top for thumbnails. A lot of "top" Youtubers do it and I just find it lazy.

I suppose it depends on the type of videos, for a lets play, Just maybe episode numbers with a different background each time that relates to that episode.
