"Freezing" my channel

Random Let's Play Gamer!
Hello everybody!

I love my channel and I really love to keep it active. But, for my school I am going away to Curacao and follow an internship there for 6 months and I am really afraid that my channel will just die then if I won't upload anything new during this period. I have a Gaming channel and it's not like I got the equipment there. All I have there is a bedroom and kitchen in one and a bathroom. I will bring my Macbook Pro with me and I was thinking about chaning my gaming channel into some kind of vlog channel with all my adventures there and upload maybe once in a week/2 weeks.

So, does anyone has any ideas what I can do best? Anyone had the same experience I am about to make. It's a huge step for my but I don't want my channel to die or something offcourse!

To be honest I think there is a real danger there. In my experience you have to keep your audience aware of everything that's going on as far as scheduling goes, I don't think they mind when they are aware you're gonna be away for a while, but I'm pretty sure they hate it when they think you're gonna be uploading weekly or something and then you just don't. You have to make sure they are informed, cause as far as I can see, youtubers don't really mind when your schedule changes or you have breaks, what they mind is expecting a video that doesn't come. So just make sure everyone knows whatever it is you plan to do, that's my advice anyway.

Yeah, I was planning on making a special vlog before I leave atleast, that I am going to have a break for 6 months. I am not going to promise any videos though, and if they upload it will come as surprise like "Hey, good to see that Maurice is still doing okay there!"

Thanks for the advice!

I agree, you should definitely made a video explaining everything.

Do you think you could maybe pre-make 6 videos (1 per month) or maybe more and then set them to 'schedule upload'? Either that or get someone you trust to upload for you. If you have a laptop and internet where you're going, you could upload the pre-made ones directly. Just an idea :). Those combined with the vlogs you mentioned should keep your subs satisfied.

Have an amazing trip! :D

I can try that! That way my subscribers know they can expect some videos still, I can schedule them. But the thing is, I have a gaming channel and with games it is that the games I upload now for like 4 months later get "outdated". Also I feel like it should be long and good videos. I do have internet and a laptop where I am going though, so maybe I can play some games sometimes on my Mac. ;) So if I choose to pre-record some videos I can just schedule them, but it needs to be special videos IMO.

Yeah that's a great idea.

I don't know how realistic this would be, but maybe you could pre-record a certain number of videos & upload them as private. Then you could make a video explaining that you're gone for 6 months, so you've pre-recorded videos that you'll upload 1x per week (or something like that).

You could ship your equipment.
How much I want to do that, I just can't. It's my desktop PC, a screen, sound, headphones, Blue Snowball mic. I am there to do my internship and I don't really have time or the place in my appartment to set this up unfortunately. I want too though. ;)

Yeah I can do that, but I don't know what games without it being outdated. I guess I can do something like this though, atleast make a video explaining where I am. ;)

I definitely agree, a vlog would be the best option for at least making sure your audience is aware. Also while you're gone you can use some social media sites to keep them updated?
