I know but for some of us that's a looong way to go. I understand why YouTube's doing it though, to prevent people from hogging URLs and never using them.You can still get one, I believe you have to have at least 500 subscribers to qualify, though.

I already have my custom URL but I'm sure I'll be facing that dilemma again, probably when I want a custom URL on Google+ (or vanity URL or whatever it's called there.)However, you can easily change your google+ name temporarily to whatever you want minus a few characters, then add those few characters when it asks.
