Promoting these things is not a violation of human rights. Doing these things is a violation of human rights. There is a world of distinction there.

That's incredibly condescending, and it's statements like that which alienate would-be allies from the feminist cause.

I'm not a feminist, not remotely. I'm quite old fashioned, in fact. I don't feel the need the burn my bra. I am what I am and I don't care for rallying for my gender. We do what we do and that's it.

Promoting leads to doing. You should know that.

Again I see, and respect, what he's saying. Freedom of speech = good. But as I said to Kevin... turn that around a moment. Remove rape from the guy's video and insert 'beating newborn babies'. Would that be any worse for you? If so, why? Why should it be any worse?

Know what I mean? :)

Yes, I know what you mean, and no, it wouldn't be any worse, or "better". Sorry, you're not going to get me with exchanging rape for anything, cause that's the point - not making a difference because I like or don't like what someone says.

The point wasn't feminism. The point was that telling a man that he can't understand the vulgarity of rape is condescending and fallacious.

I could use the same tactic to argue that as a woman, you couldn't possibly understand the "temptation" to rape among males.

It's a BS argument.

So do you have the 'temptation' to rape?

So do you have the 'temptation' to rape?

Personally? No. I tend to be pretty passive. But my point was that it was a bad argument. I have experienced the death of an infant though (since you mentioned that example), and I wouldn't accuse anyone of not being capable of understanding that experience.

But regardless, it seems we're just not going to agree on this point. If you want to say it's because I've never had to fear rape, that's fine. I'll defend your right to say that, no matter how distasteful I find the sentiment.

Note to self: don't debate authors ;)

This is getting a bit heated. I just want to say that I am an advocate of free speech but what you're allowed to say stops being an issue of free speech once you post it on a website you don't own. Is this any different than someone coming to your house for a party, them saying something offensive and you asking them to leave? If they are on your street that is different.
