Facebook's new video section

Has anyone seen Facebook's video section? Right now it seems mostly centered around live video streams and prior recorded streams, but it's now a prominent 'play' button next to the notifications button on the mobile app. You click the button and immediately see a video feed of the people you are following and others that are recommended. You can click the 'guide' button and browse videos by category. Following someone you like is as simple as hitting 'follow' and it all neatly integrates into Facebook's current system.

This is the first step to what will eventually be Facebook taking over the market for online video a few years from now. This will condition its loyal and vast user base to think of Facebook, among everything else, as a place to go to to see their favorite video creators as well as their favorite streamers, all of which will eventually be lured to Facebook due to the sheer numbers of potential audience members facebook has built-in access to. Facebook's revenue report that came out recently obliterated the estimated earnings for the platform, and there is also already talk of sharing revenue with live streamers. Non-live video creators sharing revenue will follow not so long after, I'm sure.

Facebook doesn't only want to be the biggest and most popular place on the internet...it wants to be the internet. I think it will happen, to. I hope everyone is ready. Things are going to change.

Unless they make massive overhauls to the video system not only in terms of quality as the quality is w**k but playback as well also so many other functions including making finding videos possible like it is on youtube there will almost be no way that it could take over. I think the only thing that would make people move would be if it paid better than youtube. i get why they are making a video section as is popular to nick videos from other sources including youtube and post them there, very rarely is is OC unless its like you said past live streams and stuff.

They are well on their way. Their new 'video' tab I mentioned (not everyone has it yet as it is still being rolled out) has a "search videos" function that will only improve over time. Facebook is more than capable of increasing quality (why wouldn't they be?), and all they will have to do is start paying prominent video creators like they have started paying some big streaming names to use their platform (according to an article on business week).

The thing is, video creators won't have to choose one over the other. They can upload their videos on Facebook in addition to Youtube. Facebook has already begun paying out a select few large video creators the same revenue split that Youtube gives its creators.

Maybe it could happen but I don't see it having as much presence as YouTube if it does basically copy YouTube lol,

Well, it would be good timing. Youtube isn't exactly killing it with positive publicity the past year with its copyright enforcement issues. I just tend to think people will embrace the one-stop-shop that Facebook will offer. We'll see.

Yeah we shall see, fingered crossed the competition will put people into gear and problems with YouTube will be fixed asap although at least they have started the train moving with their new third party monetization fix

YouTube, Facebook, what's next twitter XD No no lol. But Facebook becoming the next "big" thing for videos? Nope. There's a little something called YouTube, the only way Facebook can become the next big thing, is if they offer YouTubes features, AND more, but I think it's cool, you can get into a bigger audience this way, and maybe some things just TubeBuddy or some Networks will offer an option to upload YouTube videos to facebook without work? Like your first video 1 day, the next video the next day, and so on :)

I am looking forward to Facebook providing some serious video options. Nevertheless they will be hit hard by copyright if they are becoming really famous.

This is a good idea! Instead of linking better upload your video directly on Facebook. Just may be change the outdo with Facebook specific icons.

I thought you could only livestream if you had an iphone? (which I don't have) And doesn't facebook usually destroy quality?
