External DSLR Monitors?

Hey everyone, I'm getting a new camera soon but to aid with the recording of videos, I was after an external monitor that plugs directly into the camera (Canon 700D).

Has anyone used one before or do you have any recommendations?

Thanks :)

My first question is why do you need an external moniter. This will help with sugestions on they type that you will need.
My fist piece of advice is the cheap ones are not good for adjusting focus (learned that the hard way).

Marshalls are ridiculously expensive for what they are, if all you are using it for is to see what's going on, literally any small screen that takes HDMI input will work.

Thanks all, I want it so that I can check for focus and also see what everyone else will see. Obviously the 700D has a flip out screen but that would be way to small for me to be able to see in most occasions!
Also, I will be showing a lot of things in my videos so want to make sure that they are in the shot.

Do you have a smart phone or tablet?
If you do look at DSLR controller, DslrDashboard, CamCap or other apps that can control your camera using live view.

Thanks @James Strange I was just saying to my husband that it would be useful if I could use my tablet instead. I have a Samsung Galaxt Tab so I'll definitely check those out! Do I need any special cables?

Cnet has a good writeup showing how to do it search for

If you have a tablet you could look into using that as a monitor:

This one is very popular for controling Canon's and gets good reviews. I was using DslrDashboard with my Nikon and it worked but the cheap moniter was not good enough for focus.
