End Slates

A Heap Of Games

Hi everyone,

You know end slates, right? Those bits you stick at the end of your video with links to other video and maybe a message?

What do you think makes these successful. I thought that my end cards were pretty attractive and unique, but they appear to have had no effect!

I want your experience! =D

I think they're a great way to make a one last "Call to action", AKA telling your new viewers to subscribe, etc. :)
Linking previous videos of yours helps a lot too! They're helping, even if its just a little bit.

For some basic tips
1. Make them simple and easy to understand
2. Make sure its not cluttered
3. If possible use the right hand side of the screen because of peoples natural habit of reading right to left
4. Don't showcase more then 2 or three videos
5. Make sure all your icons and videos have links

Hope that helps :) best of luck!

After reading your post and replies I started looking into it as none of my previous 10 videos had an end slate. I read a tutorial on end slates and it was suggested that since most people watch a lot of videos in a row, it might just as well be yours that they keep watching.
So just set it up so that after your video is over they can just click on your end slate to get to YOUR next video LOL. Also, since people might also need a nudge, may as well put a giant subscribe button there to remind them. So, I thought to go ahead and put an end slate on my next video. So I did. I am a very small channel with only 16 subs, so I should really notice a difference if I get just 1-2 subs out of it. Haha.

A lot of youtubers say that people will click on your end card annotations more often if you make them look like actually buttons.

They may increase your views slightly, but it is also possible they will be going away with the end of annotations. YouTube is much more interested in promoting "cards" now.

It's a great call to action for people to see your other stuff. The problem is, you have to think about in terms of how successful you are. If you put up a bunch of links at the end of your video, are people going to click on them? I used to do two links to videos and a subscribe button. I really don't think they worked. So now I do 1 video and a subscribe button. Really simple. If you give people too much to do, and you're..... nobody.... what reason do they have to check out more of your stuff? When editing, it's a lot of work to create an end slate if you're doing it fancy. It's just a good idea to have just 1 video and/or a subscribe button.

So now, they've reached the end of this video from this person they've never seen before. What do you want them to do? Subscribe. Put up a single subscribe button and nothing else. OR a single video. If you're feeling a little ambitious like myself, do 1 of each. You'll want this screen to last for at least 10 seconds.

Along with being a call-to-action, having nice end slates really helps add to the look of your content, and gives it a professional feel, in my opinion.
