Elgato Game Capture

So got my game capture today, had a little play about with it earlier.

Noticed it is very laggy, maybe im doing something wrong? also cant find a way how to record audio after editing clips?

Do i need to use different software? or am i just being a complete noob?

any help is appreciated

Ok so lets see if we can solve the laggy problem first.

I personally don't have an elgato I have the hd pvr 2 currently but I believe they generally operate the same way. Ok first thing you need to do is make sure you have a 14.0 bit rate this will make everything you record HD and also if it is a 2-3 second lag from you screen to the pc this is normal.

2nd the audio.
I highly suggest getting sony vegas. You can get this program for free even though it usually costs about $500. All you have to do is go to YouTube and in the YouTube search bar enter "How To get Sony Vegas Pro 12 Full Free" and it will load up tons of tutorials all you have to do is follow the instructions on the video and it should work.

Thanks for the reply man,

Had a long look on the web last night and a few people advised using razor cortex which is kinda like a game task manager closing all unnecessary processes open. Which didn't work

Then i found a little ray of light on youtube, advising me to only have the elgato software open as running other programme's will cause lag, also said to lower the resolution but my computer is fine for 720p never mind 1080p.

I will have a look for the sony software and get that downloaded as well

I use a Hauppauge HD PVR 1 for recording PS3 games. Like what ZorkViper said its normal if you see some lag or delay while recording. And yes Sony Vegas Pro is highly recommend! Awesome and easy to learn editing software. Note that Sony Vegas Pro 12 only works on 64 bit systems. I use Pro 10 and 11 and works great

Wasn't even a delay, just during some game play it would get really jittery and skip some parts of what i have recorded including audio which is not what i want haha

but currently have the sony vegas 12 dowloading as we speak so hopefully that works and i can get on with my videos

Yeah the same thing happens with me like if I have a video rendering in sony vegas then my hd pvr 2 skips around alot and if you put it in sony vegas it won't fix it so make sure you are not recording while rendering or you will have to go and record the video all over again.
Also if you ever need a voice recording software for like commentaries I recommend audacity its free so all you have to do is download that and you have everything you could possibly need to make amazing high quality videos.

If you're talking about the 2 second delay between what shows up on your TV and what shows up in the Elgato software, that is normal. There will always be some form of a delay due to it being USB 2.0. I'd recommend using version 1.42.xx of the software as well, version 2.0 seems to mess with the quality of the actual output footage on the TV, but if you haven't had issues with 2.0 then don't worry about it.

If the lag is in the actual recording, you need to click the pause button:

This has fixed any lag issues I've had in the recordings. It's also correct and safer to have no non-windows/non-essential background closed, even things like Skype and Steam. Don't bother with that Razer software. Only use Skype if you plan on using a setup where you can record the skype voice chat too, you can do that later on when you get more experience and have money to spend.

I've had a play about with it and it seems to be working now with no lag
