Editing programs for my slow, old laptop

Right now I have an HP G71 laptop. It is almost 8 years old now.
I record video game gameplay using my elgato capture card, which works fine on my laptop. I use audacity for audio and I use windows movie maker to edit my gameplays. Movie maker doesnt have all the features I am looking for so I really want to upgrade to something like sony vegas or power director. I am not sure these programs will work on my old slow laptop that I have. I have tried adobe premiere on my laptop and it does not work with the 1080p HD videos that I have. Are there any programs better than windows movie maker that work lag-free on an older laptop like mine. It needs to be able to handle high quality and high length videos. Thanks.

If I were you I wouldn't go with Sony Vegas, its a Juice Slurper as a call it, I'd go with Camtasia as It has faster speeds for older computers, and It's got a nice amount of settings, and editable things.
