I've Got It
Hi. I feel like like a total tit. I cannot figure out the best setting for my Canon Rebel T3i. The video is crisp but i doesn't look as good as I want it to be. Maybe the problem is with my SD card? ( SanDisk Ultra 10, 16GB) I shoot with 1080p24 with shutter sped 50 and ISO not higher than 400 plus aperture around 4. Plus I own soft boxes. I am using the standard lens kit 18-55 mm. I was thinking maybe that is the problem but I found video ( I have no idea how to post links here)where girl is using the basic kit lens as well and
this girl looks exactly like I have it in my head ( like every youtuber lol) They all look like their faces have been photoshopped, so smooth and mine doesn't. You can see the redness and all the bumps, it's like too crisp if that's a thing :D. I don't know if you get what I'm saying :) Please help because I'm going nuts over this.

I wondered this too, as I used to use the same lens and was puzzled when my video still looked s****y compared to everyone else's. Even after dropping $800 on a new lens, I am still wondering.

What are your rendering settings?

if you can get someone to shoot for you, they just have to hold down the camera button until it fully focuses on you, then press record.

Could be a couple things, my first guess is light, Im guessing your softboxes are tungsten which is a 3200K light temp. Do you film where there is sunlight coming in? Sunlight is around a 55ook Light Temp.

General Rule of thumb is not to mix light temps. It will make colors not look right, so if you are going to use your softboxes make sure you have no sunlight around, blackout all your windows.

Also you can pick up a cheap 1.8 50mm canon lens for like 100 bucks, film it at a f/1.8 and block out the sun, only use one light temp color, and you should see a huge difference!

I have pretty good light in my room when it's sunny outside. Even just without softboxes with only good sunlight the image is still not what i want it to be, but I will try to blackout all the windows and use only soft boxes. Thanks

This is going to sound weird, but I had that problem for ages. I felt like I was dropping so much money just attempting to get a slightly blurrier background. Eventually I bought a remote shutter release for a couple of quid from Amazon and I swear it improved the image quality tenfold. I mean all it does is focus on a subject, but couple that with a 15 - 50 mm lens or something like that and it will give an amazing depth of field effect. I doubt this will help you any, I'm just saying what worked for me. I wasn't expecting it to, but it worked great for me :D

I dont think the depth of field is the problem.. This girl's video that i was referring to was made with the same lens as mine and it has totally different effect. I feel like all the big youtubers have like a secret knowledge that we small ppl cannot get.
