DSLR camera or a professional camcorder? Need help :(

Hey everyone!! So i need some help choosing what camera to get. Right now i use a 720p camcorder, and want to step up my game and get a new camera. Which kind should i get? A DSLR such as the Canon rebel t3i, or a nice 1080p HD camcorder?? Also, what cameras or camcorders are the best??

Thanks so much!!!

I actually own both an Canon T2i and a Canon vixia GH 10 (i believe thats what it is at lest) I have own the T2i since it was new and still love the camera but somethings it didn't do what I needed when I needed it to as for the cam corder it was expensive but the quality is great and the audio is alright but I have a mic to fix that. Really to me the DSLR is a better route if you want to also use the camera for more things like vacation or other types of videos I mainly use my vixia when I am at home and siting or I would probably use my T2i otherwise. A DSLR is also your cheeper route in big picture if you think about everything you get with it and can do with it. I mean my DLSR and lens is about 1500 (but you can get great deals and get something for 500 - 800 when my cam corder is just 1000 but no lens and some features aren't there they both have their ups and downs. I love DSLR and probably the better choice for vloggers.

Professional Camcorders (in the most literal sense) are going to run you more money than a DSLR for shooting video, and the lower end ones do not have ILS (interchangable lens systems). But they are a more comfortable form factor.
I could have gone with a DSLR for my stuff but I'm not a fan of the form factor. Good for taking pictures, not so great for vlogging in places or run-and-gun stuff. I decided to drop the extra coin and go with the Canon XA20. Yes, it's more expensive, but all the audio options you need at that level of camera are right there in extremely good quality and the picture quality is top notch. With some practice and understanding of focal length you can get a good shallow depth of field effect. It's not as shallow as a 50mm lens, but it works and is noticable.

I think you'd be best suited for a compact consumer (Sony Handycam) or prosumer level camcorder (like the Canon Vixia HF30 - which is basically the XA20 without the handle features).
