Hey everyone!! So i need some help choosing what camera to get. Right now i use a 720p camcorder, and want to step up my game and get a new camera. Which kind should i get? A DSLR such as the Canon rebel t3i, or a nice 1080p HD camcorder?? Also, what cameras or camcorders are the best??

Thanks so much!!!

Honestly, I would go with the camcorder. It'd be cheaper, and it's not like you need to have the best of the best. Something else you might want to spend money on is better lighting.

Edit: And if you really want to go the extra mile, you could pick up a microphone so you can record better voice quality. Something like the Blue Yeti or AT2020.

Double Edit: One more thing you could look into is stuff to put into the background of your recording setup. It would help make the video look more fun and colorful.

Depends, what kind of content do you want to make and how much do you want to spend?
The blue yeti and AT2020 really aren't for video making, you'd need a shotgun mic, lav mic, etc.

Honestly, those were just suggestions off the top of my head. You're right though, there are other mics more suited for this kind of stuff.

Tbh just the fact that they are both USB mics completly rules them out. I believe the AT2020 has an XLR variant, but then you'd need an external recorder, they ain't that cheap.

You could probably get a mixer for around $100 (not saying that it's cheap), but even though they're USB, they definitely sound better than a camera microphone.

You'd be better off with a Tascam or Zoom, a mixer wouldn't really cut it. A bit of paper would be better than the onboard mic x)

If you just want to take a huge leap in your youtube game I would suggest going with the DSLR. I would save up all your money for one. If you get the camcorder instead, the quality isn't as professional looking and after a while you're just going to wish that you had a DSLR. But if you really want to be cheap about it just go for the camcorder.

Well, the camera isn't everything. There's also lighting and audio they need to worry about. What's the use of having a professional camera if everything still looks and sounds unprofessional?

He didn't ask about lighting and audio so I was just focused on the camera. And I actually looked at his channel which he does vlogs on. He's not a gamer. He doesn't need to worry about audio or a mic because a DSLR will suffice for quality audio. This coming from a vlogger myself. And also, his lighting is already sufficient. If it wasn't all he would have to do is buy a cheap lamp or two, it's not that much money. For a vlogger, the camera is prime, everything else is second.
