Does your voice matter?

I'm starting a youtube channel for let's play of PS3 games and want to do live commentary with the vids but I don't have the best sounding voice in the world. Does it actually matter what kind of voice you have and will people still watch and listen no matter?

I think you just have to make your video interesting, so you yourself feel like you'd watch it. I don't think it depends so much on your voice. But I do think it's good if you sound excited when playing, you know, not keep a dull voice. I don't know so much about let's plays, but I've watched them and I know I've liked them more when the person was excited about what they were doing.

Well it will matter, but I think people are rating other qualities too. If you want to make gaming vids,go on dude, don't let such thing as voice stops you. Eventually you'll train your voice and it's gonna be ok. Don't worry and have fun.

Your voice does matter but like said above you will train your voice over time. A good mic is more important and also when doing live commentary you need to be able to keep talking.
If you listen to your own voice it always sounds weird. I hate it to edit my own voice. But don't let it hold you back. Keep practicing and testing.

Good luck!

Try it out mate. We do our console-based games on the PS3 and just try to make sure the audio quality is good. When I watch a video I'm more bothered by how easily I can hear the commentary than the persons voice itself. Good luck!

Well yes it does matter. Just be enthusiastic and entertaining by not keeping the same tone of voice and you will be successful haha! Good luck!
One question: I am planning on buying the elgato; are the files huge when you record a RAW file?

Hmmm you know what, I do think it matters but only to a certain extent. If you do a good job, at the end of the day THAT'S what's going to matter most. In other words, if your content is good, most people won't really care too much about how your voice sounds.

Just my 2 cents :)

I've heard voice-over commentaries allow one to "circumvent" copyright issues when making a gaming channel, so I would say it's not important it's essential... I would read the terms of use, according to contract you agreed to, when purchasing/playing the game, for any game content you upload, specifically the Commercial Use Sections of the Licensing Agreement. Good Luck with your channel, keep me posted on how you're doing.
