Does SEO only work WHILE you're uploading?

I often start on page 5 or something and it takes me weeks or even months until I finally am on the first page and gain several hundred views a day.
So it's totally normal not to show up on the front page right away. If your video is good and people like it, there is a good chance that one day it will.

On the other hand... One of my recently uploaded videos was on the first page of "What Does The Fox Say" for 1 week before it fell into the dark Video abyss of Youtube...

Well... I'm trying to find ways to get into high rankings for popular search terms. I mean, ranked like that is like your video will show up first page when you search for "team fortress".

I still fail to find out how to stay high, because that's probably impossible seen the quality of my videos. I managed to have good rankings for search terms: "Let it Go", Titanic and Coco.

I wouldn't go for the popular search terms as that's what everyone is trying to get their views from, instead I'd say go for terms that aren't searched too often but are still searched from time to time to guarantee them to be visible on the first page that the person searched, so more specific search terms

Nah, that's the challenge. Why should I been ranked on first page when people looking for oogaboogaCatbazooka when I could rank high for something like "Let it Go"?

Alternatively, "Singing cat" has minus 37 times that amount of search results, and with the quotations has "About 51,100 results", making it far, far easier to get ranked higher on that still popular search term.
