Does having subscribers help get more?

I'm working on a new youtube channel, and I've gotten some people to subscribe because they want to help out etc. What I am wondering though is those subscription numbers going to help people think they should check out my channel and possibly subscribe as well? Or is it the video viewing that will help get the channel out there more? I'm trying to figure out what to focus on the most at the moment besides getting content out of course, I have videos I want to do but my laptop is crappy so it had to wait till I got my desktop which I just got in the mail today.

I know these questions are probably asked a million times, but any advice on this would be nice thank you!

I've heard that the youtube algorithm focuses mainly on watch time at the moment. Your videos are more likely to pop up in search results and things and therefore be seen more if people are watching high percentages of your video :)
Don't know if that helps ^_^

That helps a lot thank you ^_^ I have subscribers but I'm not sure how often they are watching the videos since half the time they are in them lol.

I'd say that there is a balance of subscribers and views. If you have more subscribers than your top 10% of videos, there may be something wrong. Many people do sub4sub which is terrible, and you can tell when they don't have the balance of subscribers and views. I automatically click off channels I suspect use sub4sub, but that might just be me.

YouTube prefers watch time, however, psychology studies prove that humans gravitate toward social proof. Meaning, someone is more likely to sub to someone who has 5,000 subs than 50 based on the number alone.

In my experience the more subscribers you have the quicker you seem to get new ones, its like a snowball effect, as people say the first 100 are the hardest to gain. I find that I will mainly subscribe to active channels ones that regularly upload content at least once per week, if they do less than that I sometimes dont. I dont go by subscriber count but I do believe it can have an effect on others, the same way a higher view count can make a video seem better before you even watch it.

Yes ofcourse, but not the sub4sub subs, just the subs who like your content because if they like it enough they will share the stuffz

Thank you all for the responses! keeping the balance seems like its going to be a bit difficult but I shall work on it, once I get everything on my desktop (just hooked it up) I imagine it'll be easier because there will be more content coming out.

It helps but just a little bit. We are strong believers that "Content is king" - in modern YouTube ecosystem.

Yeah basically this! You will most likely struggle in the beginning, also if you have great content. People find it easier to join when they see more people already joined.
