Do you have pre-recording laziness?

I've Got It
I asked this on reddit, but I figured I'd ask here because it's great to find people who go through this and can share their advice!

SO, my question to you all is, do you have pre-recording laziness? As in, you want to record, but the idea of getting everything set up and getting to it feels daunting? I don't know if laziness is the right word, since sometimes it's me being lazy, other times it's anxiety/nerves (since I'm relatively new), and once in a while it's just being too tired. Once I get started though, everything is fine and I get all into it no problem. It's just the initial starting that's the problem.

Did that make sense? And if it did does it happen to you guys and how do you shake it off :D? Any tips would be appreciated. Unless the only tip is to chug down five coffees and get to it ...because that's always my go-to option anyway :x

Yes, definitely! The way I get around it is by bulk recording. So I'll allow myself to be lazy some days, but once I'm in front of the camera I won't let myself record any fewer than 3-4 videos at the minimum.

If you have a spare room or some extra space, you could perhaps leave most of your equipment set up. For me that's not really a viable option so I do have to set it up every time. What I do is if I'm not feeling like recording and I know I should be - I'll allow myself not to as long as I can come up with several video ideas, do the keyword research for those ideas, get appropriate titles, descriptions, tags, and thumbnails made. Then, if I'm feeling a bit more motivated when that's done I'll get to recording some of them - and if not, then when I'm feeling less lazy and start recording I now have a bunch more ideas I can record all at once that I planned earlier. :)

Pre-Recording Laziness. Post-recording laziness.

I have it all.

Basically, my process per video is so long and convoluted that I get too lazy to start. I don't really have a way of beating it. Inspiration just sort of comes and goes for me.

It's pretty bad.

I'd like tips too.

Oh well, then i don't have a tip for you :hilarious2: If you like reading i can suggest a book though. Its called The War of Art by Steven Pressfield. It talks about what obstacles an artist will come in contact with how to prevent them and deal with them. Like writer's block being unable to get your creative juices running or even toxic ppl or other things. I use term artist in a generalized form you can be a musician a dancer a painter a youtube content creator doesn't matter its ment for ppl who do something creative. I hate reading but i listened to the audio book.

CONSTANTLY! I am always mentally dragging my feet just before it's time to film, even though it's not that hard and not that bad when I finally get everything ready. It's funny to me that I am so lazy about it when I always do it, and it's never all that bad. I'm so glad other people feel the same way sometimes!!

I have very limited time to film, so I am usually pretty excited to film, so I get right to it. Editing on the other hand...that I will procrastinate.

Everything you said except with me it is clearly anxiety not laziness. And same as with you, once I get going I am fine. I've had it for a very long time and it effects pretty much anything creative I do. Don't know of a way to get around it. But usually my desire to create overcomes my fear of it after a while. I wish I could get rid of it.

I have to set it up every time too, which doesn't help! I think if everything was up and running, I'd have an easier time getting into it so I feel you on that. BUT, I love the whole ...if you're not recording, research! This is so productive and such a great idea on those days I don't feel like recording! Definitely going to start doing that from now on :D

Yes. I was going to record a video today as I had the whole day to myself so turned PC on, opened steam and went, "I'll just play a little bit of football manager before I do". I was coming to end of the season and felt like finishing it before filming. I ended up half way through the next season and then my daughter got took to hospital badly and now there is no video and my 3 year old and wife are overnighting in hospital. So you would think this would be the perfect time to record a video with no earache from the mrs and a quiet house right? Nope! I am back on football manager. Would be ok but my go to game for wasting time at the moment isn't even Football manager, it is Hearts of iron, so I don't know where this has crept in from.

Side note my daughter is ok and on the mend now luckily so I am not being a complete nob, just a little bit of one (and I did spend a few hours in hospital with her, but I do have a 1 year old at home to look after too - just for the parent police out there).
