Do you have / need a Team?

This is a topic that is truly blowing my mind

I recently went to the YouTube space LA to unlock the space.

Upon arrival, I noticed there where a lot of YouTubers who brought people with them.

When asked who these people were, a majority were Managers or filming crew.

I thought to myself "this is simply people from L.A trying to make themselves feel more important than they are". or maybe these people legitimately need teams.

Some of these people with "managers" and "teams" had under 30k subscribers, I really don't get it.

My question is, do any of you have managers?
What do you feel would be the point in having a manager?
At what point in your youtube career are you going to seek help and build a team? why?

Managers?! Well, that's interesting...

I can understand "teams", I'd personally love to have a small team to help with creating short films. If you're just making videos by yourself though that does seem a little unnecessary.

A lot of it depends on what types of videos you make. However, every successful youtuber has at least a small team.
I do 99% myself and if i could find an editor or someone to do social media or someone to help setup my projects, i could get my channel to 20k subs in a year or less. Find a team as soon as you can, but keep it small and tight.

I personally have myself doing the writing and acting, while I have friend doing editing, and my sister with advertising. Its just easier having a small team, instead of doing it all yourself. I think what it really comes down to is personal preference.

Well I definitely don't have a manager or anything like that yet, as I can currently juggle the workload myself no problem (plus, I micromanage too much anyways). That being said, I can understand why some channels that have hundreds of thousands of subscribers would need people helping them, especially if they get offers to go on tours, signings, events, etc. Handling all that along with running a channel on your own may be a bit overwhelming, especially if they're someone young that doesn't have experience with anything like that.

That being said, I definitely do have a team of sorts that helps me with the actual production of my videos, and without whom it wouldn't be possible for me to make my videos (so I'm very thankful and grateful to them). Depending on the nature of our shoots, we've had crews of up to ten people (for some of our higher profile interviews), for pranks we usually have at least 4 crew members (usually one or two cameras, a sound mixer and just someone helping out) along with whatever actors needed, and even our smallest crew sizes for our street interviews (like the one we just released) have at least two people with me.

Obviously the need for a crew is based on the content of your channel, of course. If I were just vlogging on my own or producing songs and covers, I probably wouldn't need anyone else. It just so happens that for the type of videos I make, like I said before, it would be impossible for me to make them without help. I love working and collaborating with people too, so it's fun for me to work alongside people.

Everyone has made very valid points and I appreciate your input.

Can anyone answer these questions:

My question is, do any of you have managers?

Why do you think someone with less than 30k subs needs a manager?

Also, how would you go about finding a manager if you wanted one?

I have a manager and a crew... It's me! And only me... #ForeverAlone

But all horrible jokes aside, it really depends on the content you make. I'm sure it can be more fun with people too

1. I guess I would be the manager? I keep everyone in check, making sure everyone is doing their jobs, and not being lazy.
2. To make sure everyone is doing their jobs correctly, I suppose. Also booking conventions and such, I guess.
3. It depends on the kind of videos. If your making vlogs, I don't really see the point. But, if your doing something as huge as say.... Epic Rap Battles of History, I guess it would make sense.
4. I can't answer that one, sadly. :/

We sort of do, but that's because it's something we all creating. Vidcast was a project we all made together, and so we class ourselves as 'managers', and then we 'employ' our friends and stuff to help us with some videos and stuff. For productions, especially in studios and things like that, you need at least 4-7 people on a team, there's simply too much that needs to be done. I've never been to a YouTube space, so I don't know what kit they have, but if it's anything like a normal TV studio, they would definitely need a team of that many. Plus, collabs happen, and putting someone else's name on a video counts as a mention, and could grab some of their viewers I guess.

This makes me feel like I would probably go to even greater heights if I had a team, and it makes me sad :( lol but seriously, it does lol

I do 100% of Everything all by myself :(

Filming, editing, script writing, research, case studies, hair, makeup, Marketing, Blogging, Website design, website development, search engine optimization for youtube and website, Social media marketing, Advertising, Networking, Negotiating sponsorship deals, Troubleshooting hardware and software when things go wrong, and Absolutely anything else you can imagine. I need to get a team FAST.

If you were in my position, how would you go about finding these people?
