Do you guys really feel that having what you have to make content with holds you back?

Do you feel if you had "this" microphone, "this" camera, "this" computer etc it would benefit you in any way at all in terms of your channel growth ?

yeah we would all like new equipment I would kill for a better computer and mic but I really don't feel it would help my channel grown because I just can't get noticed.

I feel the same way, I made the grave mistake of not researching a camera before I asked for it for Christmas, it's great for photos but horrible for video recording, and it is really noticeable since I have to zoom into the footage in edit to make it fit the frame. My mic is better than before since I bought a new one instead of the awful camera mic, but it was only a cheap one.

I don't really think it stops me from gaining subscribers, when I first started out on YouTube I was filming on a MacBook and I earned over 1k just by using my MacBook. It's holding back from uploading my music I need some equipment and software to be able to upload my songs to YouTube, so it's holding me back from doing that. Equipment for YouTube is really expensive!

I think it all depends on the video. Sometimes i wish my camera was better but ive learned to use what i have to make the best vids that i can.

I don't think equipment holds you back. I personally think that if someone likes your content enough, they will just enjoy watching you for your personality. I believe that most youtube viewers know by now that channels grow sooner or later and the content creator will be able to afford better equipment.

We've been filming with a few RED Epic Dragons ($20k cinema cameras) and pro sound gear and lights (I work in the film industry) so if I can't make decent videos, there's definitely something wrong with the content and/or my approach.

That being said, I'm looking to downgrade the equipment we use to streamline the YouTube workflow. As it stands, some of our stuff is overkill and I'm sure no one would notice of we used cameras a fraction of the price.

What I won't sacrifice though is audio and lighting.

Definitely. My equipment's been holding me back like you wouldn't believe. There are a lot of videos I can't even upload, because the encoding overloads and the game I tried to film was a complete lagfest, or my microphone decided to turn off or get really quiet halfway through my recording, and I get plenty ideas for ways to edit my views, but I'm stuck using that crappy Windows Movie Maker, which is very limited. If I had the equipment, I could do daily uploads, upload actual trending content, and that'll get me the views I need. Anyone who says equipment doesn't play a part in YouTube is just naive. That's like unironically saying Minecraft Awesome Parodies Steve is on the same level as Ed Sheeran. No. Just. No.

RED Dragons!?!? I had to check out your channel because you mentioned that. And my god, the quality is absolutely insane! I can't even imagine what kind of storage requirements you need to work with those kinds of file sizes.

My camera is definitely holding me back. I made the mistake of purchasing a DJI Osmo. Gives me nice, stabilized footage. But there are so many problems with it. Poor battery life, the app keeps crashing (which interrupts filming) or glitching (which screws up the audio or video or both for whatever was recently recorded). I can't even adjust the aperture so I'm always out of focus when I get close to the camera. It makes for very poor workflow, and I lose so much time. I could be doing other things like scripting better episodes or promoting my content. Stay faaaaaaaaaarrrrrr away from the DJI Osmo!
