A short intro helps with the viewer remembering your name/brand and may give it more of a show feeling, although people who do 30 second intros deserve 0% audience retention.
I want a cool 5 sec intro but I use the video thumbnail for now.
I think something is needed before the video starts, an intro or picture or anything. just to ease the viewer into the experience and not just slap them in the face with your awsomeness.
and if you have ads before video then keep the intro short, 5 sec max. otherwise I think around 10 sec should do it.
I think an intro is a must! Sure you dont NEED one, but I think it really adds to the branding of your channel and professionalism. But definitely make it short, like the others said, too long and people will lose interest.
I think short, professional-looking intros are fine. They can really add to a channel. Just don't go crazy with it. Anything over 10 seconds is too long in my book. (Unless it's a web series and there is a theme song that I'm fine with.)
