Decent pc for rendering??

andrew everest

I've Got It
SO i have just purchased and built my new editing pc and these are the specs

intel i5 4770k processor
vengeance ram 16gb 2133 mhz
z87 motherboard
650w corsair power supply
2 tb hdd
blu ray disk drive

is this any good for editing?

Why the blu ray disk drive? :P
Also I thought i7 are better for rendering than i5, but not sure about that.

My husband works for Intel and he's told me that the performance gains of the current Haswell i7s are not worth the price increase. The i5s are quite good and a better value.

i7's are a little bit better than i5's so if you've got the money it's worth the upgrade which you've already done! :D

As for your specs, you've built an Intel Build which means it should be decent at rendering videos nicely :) I'm wondering what graphics card you have though? if you don't have one I would suggest getting an Nvidia one so you can use their 'CUDA' to make the graphics card take some of the rendering pressure so it will render previews and such REALLY fast :)

I was thinking about adding in a card later something like a gtx 760 ? could you recommend a decent gpu for around £200 / $275[DOUBLEPOST=1391677997,1391677980][/DOUBLEPOST]

For £200 you might be able to get a 7970, great card.

That's actually the best Nvidia GeForce card I would have suggested you get for that price :)
