I like your Vlogging style, the "selfie" style vlog (channel trailer) is i think your best strategy, there is something about blogging while on the move which will keep peoples attention more! :)

First of all, I'm not gonna rate your vlog channell because I'm actually not really into that stuff. Sorry about that.

That being said, I cannot believe you spend 15 hours on the valentine vlog!! That is absolutely nuts and to be quite honest...it doesn't show. My question is to you is: Why did that take so long? Edit problems? Can't decide what to put into a video? Too much material? Did you script it or are you filming on the fly? I would really like to know that because you can really benefit from streamlining your workflow. As I see it, that valentine video should have taken you 2 to 4 hours depending on the amount of footage you've got.

On the other had. Maybe it just takes time to edit a certain way if you always done it different. Could be just getting into the grove of things.

I can imagine that you're doing less on the prank channel as these got some bad rep these last couple of weeks, but I wouldn't ditch it though. You've got freakin 125k subs!! That's something you can actually build from or expand from. If you are absolutely certain you are not don't want to do too many pranks anymore you should consider doing vlogs in that channel. Maybe make a separate playlist and changing the thumbs of your vlog videos so they are really different from your prank vids.

My point is, you've got already an excellent base to work from. Of course there will be lots of subs/viewers that will not watch your vlogs, but there are loads of people who like to watch both. So you already have those guys hooked from the start.

Just spitballing here of course and given the size of my channel you don't have to listen to me at all :P I hope we can be of some help around here.

I wouldn't be able to do any other content but pranks on my main channel, if you have a big channel on youtube, you soon learn that you can't just change the genre entirely.

As for the valentine vlog, its actually perfectly frame by frame made with music, and obviously the video was made from clips acquired within an actual day of vlogging put into a movie'ish type of video. If you could actually see how many cuts there are in the video in my editing software you would understand why it took 15 hours, so I'm going to assume it doesn't have anything to do with editing problems haha (especially since i've been editing videos for 2 years haha). That video was actually done with 4k footage as well so its a tad slower/laggier, but I doubt that was any significant problem, if you do heavy edit videos its pretty common to take that long, I know many people who spend hours of editing for just a minute or 2 of a video, so yeah hmm. But yeah once again, its not a script, its vlogging lol.

Also since its not scripted, I film my days, and as such its not really a sketch, its my life haha... If you watched one of my other actual longer vlogs, not that movie vlog, you probably would be able to build a foundation on what my content is about.

BUT yeah broski, I appreciate you checking that video out. If you do have the time, legit just watch my newest video (Vlog #7) till the end, or even vlog #1. Its not really a traditional vlog, i'm trying to make them edited in a way where it could appeal to anybody!

My worry is that if it's taking you 5+ hours to edit each vlog, and you're going for a daily vlog, you're going to burn yourself out very quickly. (Since I imagine it takes you a good long time to film, as well.) Vlogs are (in my opinion) more of an "of the moment" thing, and if you're going for more quality than a usual daily vlogger, I would say to cut down your process in some way, or change the upload schedule. Maybe you can take that sort of Herculean effort to get your content up all the time, but I would fall apart after a few weeks of that.

I just know I like editing the vlogs. Maybe its my university that gave me the work ethic to work that long and such. Thought i do agree, I can be editing any more vlogs longer than 5 hours probably. I know Casey Neistat edits his vlogs 3-6 hours every day haha.

BUT besides the face of how hard I work or how long it takes to edit, I'm going to assume if the editing is good than it just makes it that much harder for someone to copy me because they most likely wouldn't spend hours editing a video every day. In life most people wont succeed in achieving their dreams because they are not willing to put in the work that is necessary for achievement.

So what did you think of the vlog, besides not liking how long I edit? Did you watch the newest vlog I put out for example?

and thank you so much for your feedback! :)

I watched the "Chris is Back" vlog, and it's well-done, for sure. Your worry over people copying you is interesting....I consider vlogs un-copyable, since they're all about you, and most people I know who watch vlogs watch them for the personality and interesting things that the person behind them does (or the routine, or the things they buy, or the cute kids they have, etc.), but your quality of work can differentiate you.

Hey bro! Welcome to the forum :) First off, I'm going to agree with what @Owlins mentioned in the quote above. That Valentines video should never have taken so long to edit. I see no clear example of why it took you so long. With that said, I think he is correct in the fact that there is a missing factor which is causing your edits to take so long. For example, I have videos that have much more depth when it comes to editing and it doesn't take me any where near as long as you are mentioning. AND, I just started editing for the first time ever. I think your workflow could use a little more help is all :) Take a look at my McDonald's All Day Breakfast video. It took me roughly 5-6 hours to edit that video, and it was my second edit EVER. Even with all that stop motion and including filming time and we didn't break 10 hours.

@xingcat hit the nail on the head with his post. If your edits are taking you that long to do, daily vlogs are out of the question. You will most definitely burn yourself out, both mentally and physically, or just give up completely. If your edits were say 2-3, even 4 hours each, that may be an easier shoe to fill.

This is just my 2 cents, so take it for what it's worth. I am still a newbie and have only been doing this whole filming, editing, youtube thing since November, so I am still learning as well :)

Good luck on your adventure into the vlogging world and congrats on the growth of your other channel!!!

Yeah i've always thought it would be interesting if someone very big on vlogs did try and copy my "rewind" concept, or like tv show type of style when I introduce new people from my live into the vlogs. In vlog #1, I introduced all my roommates in my college suite, and I do it randomly throughout future vlogs so yeah. But I really do appreciate the comment. Yeah i'm hoping people will see i'm a genuine, nice guy, who wants to make vlogs much better in quality compared to others who just take 10 minutes to edit a 30 minute video that may be too long/boring to watch, while mine are much shorter and have this flow to it. Or at least I think they do haha. If you ever have any tips on what you think I should do differently I love all opinions! I legit want to make my vlogs better than anyone else on youtube so I know I can grow and such. :)[DOUBLEPOST=1456762374,1456761754][/DOUBLEPOST]

If you see the picture I showed above of the video and how it looked in Final Cut pro you may get a little understanding on how many clips were cut down and precisely used. For example I Just watched the McDonald's video, and the points of reference that would have added a few hours more into the equation may be this. First 25 seconds is an intro, no relative editing time needed. The part with the "wheres bacon egg and cheese" right after the intro, is nice, cool stuffs probably took a little bit of time to edit that/film it depending on how perfect you wanted it. And the other longer part to edit/film would be the USA drawing which was a nice touch and made the video much much better. The rest of the video was probably very low on the editing scale just because there isn't any music syncing you needed to do, so the clips were almost just a plug in and done for that portion. Though I think its just rather easy to edit a video in general that is made with a concept in mind, rather than having 150+ clips of a day and editing it down to lets say the valentine vlog that is 2 and a half minutes. If you notice on the valentine video, there isn't a clip that is longer than I believe 3 seconds for the whole video without a cut. Oh and I color correct and audio correct every clip, some of your clips peaked in the mcdonalds, could have heightened the audio for example of the person speaking in the machine when ordering the food, ect. So those little things add quite some time to editing too. Is it necessary, probably not, but every little bit of perfection will make you 1 step more ahead of the competition perhaps.

I appreciate the comment homie! Yeah I don't know, editing to me is like watching TV for some people. Its like saying, I would get burned out if I watched tv 5 hours a day, when the US national average hours watched of TV a day is like 5 hours I think already haha. Its almost like saying people who have a 9 to 5 job get burned out, when we all know thats something that can't happen if you want to live and have an average job. Even in my college, I've done maybe 300+ all nighters in 4 years.... Ironically, I didn't go to sleep last night and i'm doing an all nighter as we speak. Literally editing and writing a paper haha. So i'm not really scared of working hard, I'm friends with many youtubers with over 1 million subscribers, and they all work hours a day editing. Youtube is a job in the end of the day.

BUT besides the editing hours and some peoples opinions on burning out and the editing/work ethic haha, what did you think of the videos as a whole homie?

Not really sure what you are asking then. If you like editing for that long, then keep on doing it. We are just stating that your edit times don't reflect the high quality standard you want your videos to be. Just keep on doing it and find your work flow. To each their own right! :)
