Channel name important?

I'm sure this must have been asked a million times but I couldn't find an answer.

How important is the channel name? Or is it?

I know in the real world choosing the right name is extremely important for branding and gaining the right and large customer base. Does this apply to Youtube channels?

I'm just setting up a new channel called Jelly Legged Parrot. I like it as it has meaning for me, but my channel is not about jelly-legged parrots lol (though there will be subtle connections). So does this matter iyo?

I think it is important.. I mean if you plan to advertise or promote it.. like make cards or anything if it is a bunch of random numbers and letters it looks ghetto.

It needs to be something people can remember. JellyLeggedParrot sounds pretty funny, lol. JLP for short.

I think that it's important, but it is not HUGELY important because people can find you through your channel title as well, not only your channel URL.

As Michael Cimicata said it is important but not extremely important. In YouTube as in the rest of internet content is the King (especially if neatly packaged).

BTW with the new system two or more channels could have the same name so even YouTube doesn't seems to consider the channel names as very important.

I think it is rather important. But as long as you stay away from the cliches like others mentioned, it should be fine. Do what you want! It's your channel! Haha

It'll become important to whoever owns the channel if they want to send out a link to it and they own youtube.com/channel/uOhG8Hdd6 instead of the actual name.

It does matter but I also think that your content matters much more than your name! Funny thing is when I first read your post I read Jelly Legged Pirate...
