I get why YouTube has made the changes they did. Also, I understand why many aren't happy with the changes. I have two channels and on one a video that I posted years ago caught wind on reddit for some reason and in the last month has over 420k views. I have a decent check coming my way for it too. Got to love that 4th quarter ad rate. Prior to that though it took me 1 year and 3 months just to hit $90. I'll loose monetization on both of my channels. So on one hand I'm glad everything happened when it did because now I have some spare cash coming but otherwise many days I found more money left behind people in vending machines at work that what I earned in a day.
For me though it hasn't discouraged me. Nothing has changed. I enjoy making videos. I want to share what I create. 1,000 subs is still off in the distance for me and way farther on the other channel that just made me the money but I'm aiming much higher anyways. If it happens, great. If not, still having fun. I'm not going anywhere.
