Capture devices and rendering times

Okay, so when recording with FRAPS it doesn't compress the files as they're being recorded - resulting in files that are roughly 1gb for every 1 minute of footage.

I know there are capture devices (such as Bandicam) which do compress the files as they're being recorded, resulting in much smaller files.

My question is, would using these compressed files result in shorter rendering times after I've edited them and are processing them on Sony Vegas? Currently, using FRAPS, it takes me about 2 hours for 20 minutes of footage, and I'd definitely be able to get more content produced if Bandicam made this time shorter.

Thanks!

Moved this to the video editing section for you :)

I'm not sure if it would result in less render time, but I do know that if the file is smaller the video editor will be able to perform better with the clips. If you lower the bitrate on render settings you'll get a shorter render time :)

In theory smaller file sizes should mean faster rendering times. cutting your 20 minute videos down to let's say 10-15 minute ones also improves it greatly (when i did it in a test, i minimized rendering from 1 hour to half an hour)

Something you want to keep in mind though, is that if you decide to convert them to smaller files using some other codec, you won't get as good a quality as if you used raw (depending on the codec you won't see anything major in differences)
