Cameras: Point & Shoot, Compact, or DSLR?

Hey there YTtalk Community! So lets talk a new camera. Currently I use an iPod Touch 4G as a vlogging camera. The quality is good enough that you can upload it and people will watch it ( example my latest video all shot on ITouch 4G) But I am starting to look into actual real cameras. Uses are for both 1080p vlogging and 1080p just normal video making. Any Recommendations? I have looked at the Nikon 1 J1 I love everything about it but will 10.1 megapixels will be a good enough quality? Thanks!

Canon Rebel series would be your best bet.
 
If you are wanting to do like "take a long" vlogs, where you vlog while doing stuff throughout your day, a point and shoot will be perfect for you. They are small, and easier to cary around. I would suggest a Canon Powershot ELPH. They are small, compact, record in 1080p, and are a great vlogging camera. I used to use a Canon Powershot ELPH 110HS, and it worked great.

If you are wanting to do vlogs where you are in one position (Not taking it throughout your day), then a DSLR is the one to go for. They are bigger than point and shoots, but the quality will be better, and it will give a more professional feel to your videos. I suggest any of the Canon Rebel series. I currently use a Canon Rebel T3i, and it works perfectly.

The reason why I suggest the point and shoot for "Take a long" vlogs, is because they are easier to hold and carry around than DSLR. You could use a Point and shoot for vlogs where you are in one position, but a DSLR would work better.

Thanks for the info! Now see if you can answer this. What about Compact Cameras? They have the same compact size as a P&I but also powerful like a DSLR. Is it something worth looking into? Thanks!

Well I think the question of what kind of videos you're wanting to make is still in play. Do you want to do vlogs out and about? Looking at your channel, you seem to do videos where you're not just sitting infront of the camera talking. A Point and shoot, or compact will be perfect for you. You could bring it around anywhere you go, and vlog. And since it's small, you are able to hold it and vlog.

If you're looking to do videos where you are sitting infront of the camera, a dslr would be a better choice. However they are bigger, and harder to cary around. You also won't be able to hold the camera and vlog, it would be very difficult.

I'd say go with the Canon Powershot ELPH 110HS, or 100HS (you can find it online for cheap).
 
Canon T2I (550D), Canon T3I (600D) or Canon T4I (650D).
It's a fantastic consumer camera which delivers professional looking results, not as good as Canon 5D but still, it's not for professionals.
Downside but also Upside of this camera is changeable lens, point and shoot don't have lenses, so their view, depth of field are usually normal looking, with Canon DSLR, you will get kit lens 18-55mm which is good for some situations, not pro though, and you can get one Prime lens canon 50mm f1.8, which will make your footage more cinematic by flatting it and blurring background, also 50mm f1.8 lens is good in low light so, you won't have problem at night... So you'll get them pro looking flat videos of yourself talking, and background fully blurred.
AND stunning photos, since it is photo camera lol.

PS: they deliver 1080 30/24fps and 60fps on 720.
 
Oh yea just a heads up for everyone who sees this Cannon discontinued the ELPH 110. So I'm guessing that someone should at least recconmend a different one and I am leaning more towards Compact and Point and Shoot cameras

That is why they are so cheap if you can find them online. Still good cameras none the less, it'll save you about 50$
