Body image and YouTube

i think people will like you more because of the caracter you are trying to show.
you have your body shape work around it such us
- you have to act like you are confedent
-make yourself look presentable (come hair, dress cool)
then you are good to go

I think confidence plays a bit part in it. Personally, I'll watch anyone's channel as long as the content is appealing, regardless of gender, race, weight, etc. It makes no difference to me what they look like if I enjoy what they're creating.

I'm a larger guy, and I'm actually quite comfortable in my skin! I know I eat a lot, and I have no issues ^u^

My one problem, however, is that even I, someone who admires the beauty of big people, often feel intimidated by skinny YouTubers...

I don't know if it's social standard or if it's an actual body image issue. I'm love my body, but when I start watching YouTubers, I feel less happy with it. I often think, "People would like me more if I were skinny." But I don't want to be skinny, to be honest O_O I don't like it.

It's so conflicting!!!!! What are your experiences? Are there any plus-size people who have gone through this and found ways to feel more confident? Can anyone point out plus-sized youtubers who have some degree of fame or notoriety that I can look up to so I don't feel so... pathetic? O_O

I can guarantee you that if you fail, it ain´t gonna be because you´re fat.

True words. :)

ANd to be honest i see a big variety of body types on youtube, so to me there is no stereotype of a youtube body, that is for TV, movies and fashion. The beauty of youtube and content creation is the freedom and lack of stereotypes of beauty of fitness, unless obviously you are actually targeting those body conceptions

And even with TV and Movies, the problem isn´t that a fat person couldn´t please the audience. The problem is that the producers and the big companies have convinced themselves that the audience only wanna see beautiful people and won´t tolerate someone less physically appealing, wich is not true at all.

It´s the same thing with age and jobs. Employers have convinced themselves that someone needs to be young and pretty to in order work with the public and sell a product. I can only speak for myself, but i don´t remember ever deciding whether or not to buy something based on the look of the employee. If i walk into a store and see a t-shirt i like for a good price, the cashier being fat and old won´t stop me from buying the t-shirt.

Are you saying I'm a bad YouTuber? ;D haha ... if the answer is yes, just.. don't answer that O_O
Or offer constructive criticism! I love constructive criticism :D

I´m saying that your success doesn´t depend on whether or not you are fat.Fat or thin, you will fail if you don´t have interesting content.

i know how you feel. i have struggles with this too. I'm not exactly plus size, but I am larger than the norm (or at the very least, I have always perceived myself as larger than the norm) and that has caused some body image issues. I have brought up self confidence in a few videos before, and I try my best to portray self confidence. Hopefully, this is helpful to viewers.. Not sure though.. I try to silence the voice in mind that critiques my appearance when editing a video. I try to silence it and upload the video before I can second-guess myself.

You shouldn't feel pathetic about the way you look. I generally am sad to hear that social media has made you feel naff. It is so easy to look at a lot of the big Youtubers, they tend to be attractive and skinny and fall apart wondering if being more attractive would make your channel more popular and appealing to an audience. That being said, I always look at Casey Neistat when i feel like that. The guy is not particularly attractive however his audience is growing every day. People don't care about the way he looks, they just love his content. Put good content out and people won't give a damn about your weight or appearance! XO

I am not what I would call "big" but I am bigger than I was and bigger than I want to be! But I haven't gotten any negative comments (I was worried about trolls) while wearing a swim suit and I haven't gotten any negative feedback! I think so long as you're confident in your skin then no one else really cares!!! Be the best you you can be and I think people will like you! :)
