Best way to do a Cover

Hey people! :)

Ever since I started my channel I've really wanted to do some guitar covers. Not as the main thing for my channel but just as an occasional thing, to keep things interesting haha.

I did actually do one at the start of the year, but I had to take it down because of copyright, and to be honest the whole process of it and taking it down has left a bad taste in the mouth so to speak. But I wouldn't mind giving a couple more a try at some point.

So I was wondering if anybody has some advice for doing covers. Mostly what's a good way to choose a song so that it won't hopefully have to be taken down? But also if anyone has advice for recording them, i.e. camera set up's, recording audio etc, that'd be great too :)

Thanks for reading!

Hmm, did you use the actual audio from the song in your cover last year? Usually YouTube picks up on that and is more harsh.

If you make all the tracks, like guitar vocals etc it's usually less likely YouTube will pick up on it, or take it down.
Also avoid doing covers for artists who are on Vevo and those real big music networks.

As for recording, aha, that's a whole world of information man ;)

Good luck!

Recommended you to use RODE / Audio Technica microphone. I heard these are great for recordings. I haven't used any of these before, so I can't explain much more about this lol

Yeah I used the song, which is definitely why it got taken down haha.
I think I might just try doing another one, and if I have to take it down again then I just won't bother: don't think I'm talented enough to do all the stuff myself haha
Thanks anyway :)[DOUBLEPOST=1413209706,1413209612][/DOUBLEPOST]

You need a syn license or a written broadcast permission from the copyright holder to be allowed to upload cover video to YouTube.

If you play and sing yourself and then give credit to the original writers .... they still take it down?

That totally depends on the copyright holder. Some may simply put ads on your video and some will even share revenue with you but others will instantly deal you a strike if you don't have license agreement with them.

Yup. I've noticed it mainly seems to be big bands/artist that are also on Vevo that tend to be the strictest

All of my covers are available online with no copyright problems. They have been identified by Content ID, which means that the original creator is getting the Ad revenue. No strikes on my channel.

As of now, due to my network (Fullscreen), 90% of my covers can be monetized by me and are more legal than they were before :p. (We Are The Hits is the partnership that Fullscreen just connected with that allows me to do this legally)
