I see a lot of this could be geared toward Windows Software, but I use a Mac. I started out using iMovie and it was great for simple edits and served my needs for a long time. I'm now using Final Cut Pro X from Apple for my video production, and my intro was made in Adobe After Effects based off a Template I found somewhere on the internet that I liked. I haven't used premiere, but some of my friends swear by any adobe software, however I do have one friend that swears by Vegas. With any software, just as a general tip, it's absolutely worth the effort to learn different keyboard shortcuts and things if you haven't already as menus and things are hard to navigate, it will GREATLY improve productivity and reduce stress if you can do most of your editing without touching the mouse.
Hope this helped.
