Best program for video montages?

Since I do animations and video montages on my channel, I'm wondering what is the best software program to use to amazing videos which would suit my satisfaction and whether if it's free or not. It would cool to here from you guys opinions and if you do anything that specializes in the area of work that I do. :)

If you're just looking to cut, and edit clips, and arrange them to make a montage, nearly any editing program will do that for you; it's pretty basic.
 
For pro editing I love to use adobe after effects. It has a tonne of features and there are loads of youtube videos to help you learn the basics.

Ae isn't a video editing program, Adobe's video editor is Premier Pro, which I would recommend, you can get it for free with CS2 or for a monthly price with the more up to date CC.

You can do more in after effects than in premier pro.

It's not designed for editing, it's a video effects program, Pr has more features for a Video Editor, Ae might appear to have more features but they won't suffice for a video editor.

AE and Premiere are two totally different things. AE is like photoshop for videos, where are Premiere is the actually editing program. :P

If you're rendering your videos through AE, and leaving at that, you have issues xD
