Hassle in what sense? Just thought it might be more discrete, hey seems everyone has a DSLR these days. With his budget, DSLR wouldn't be the best, too much hassle
Shallow depth of field, limited recording time, etc. I'd recommend one for short films, comedy and all that stuff but maybe not pranks x)Hassle in what sense? Just thought it might be more discrete, hey seems everyone has a DSLR these days.
No. Wouldn't recommend a DSLR for your use. manual focus and all that is a pain.Is there a DSLR with stabilizers that are any good without having to use a glidecam or something similar? If there was a gyroscope inside one that would be sweet.
Yea, but they're not really optimal for his task, DSRLs are great at some things but this really wouldn't be it. If he was on a small budget sure, but he's got 5k to play withHalf an hour recording should be long enough for pranks surely? Pentax and Sony DSLRs are generally stabilised. Manual focus is pretty easy and some focus well enough in video mode (although varies a lot, some are pretty awful!). Stabilisation on newer lenses is generally very good. Depends really what you're doing though.

You can walk at the same time with pretty much any camera, but it'll be all over the place even with good stabilisation, unless you really can keep your hands still/use a shoulder rig.Is the stabilization good enough to walk and use at the same time like a handycam?
DSLRs aren't at all ergonomic to hold, a larger camera is always nicer for more stable imageryMy handycam has a gyroscope but the video quality is really s****y compared to my t3i
